BREACH: The Plight of America's Undocumented Youth delves into the stories of five undocumented young men as they recount their experiences of life in the shadows since early childhood as illegal aliens in the U.S. With the September 5th, 2017 repeal of DACA, Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals, President Trump managed to steal the small glimmer of hope these US-raised youths once had for a path to legalization. Now their futures hang in the balance as they look for inspiration and courage to continue the uphill battle towards a normal, stable, and legal adult life. These stories illustrate the unconscious and involuntary breach of laws that all undocumented youth fearfully struggle with every day.
BREACH was inspired by the countless stories of undocumented youth who were brought at a young age and unwillingly breached the country's law. Now they fight for the right to stay and continue their lives in the only country they've ever known and consider their home. They are not criminals, nor delinquents, nor rapists, as many have been misled to believe. They are simply immigrants, like the scores of immigrants who had crossed our borders and ports before, looking for the same chance at a better life. The one chance these young adults were given was through the executive action by President Obama on June 15, 2012 entitled DACA- Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Through this program, undocumented aliens who were brought as minors were given temporary protection against deportation, a Social Security number, and a work permit to allow them safe livelihood. President Trump repealed DACA on September 5th, 2017, ending that safety net and hope for legalization for its recipients. This action has caused millions of DACA supporters to rise and protest. From loud rallies to quiet hunger strikes, these empowered young adults are now shouting for the world to hear their cries. For those that don't understand the plight of these undocumented youths, or aren't familiar with their experiences, BREACH will hopefully bridge that gap of misunderstanding and answer those questions of whether these US-raised youth merit legalization. It's time to rise above the doubt and hear their voices.
